Privacy Policy
Effective June 30, 2026
Short version: MetraX collects almost nothing, doesn't track you across the web,
shows no ads, and never sells your data. There are no accounts.
MetraX is a real-time Chicago Metra train tracker, available as a website
(metrax.us) and an iOS app. This policy explains what limited
information the app uses and how.
What we use
- Your station selection — your chosen line and stations are saved
locally on your device (browser/app storage) so the app remembers them. This stays on
your device and is not sent to us.
- Location (iOS app only, optional) — if you tap “Use my location,” the app
requests when-in-use location to pick the Metra station nearest you. Your coordinates are
used on your device to compute the nearest station and are never stored on our
servers or shared with anyone. You can use the app fully without granting location by
choosing a station manually.
- Feedback you send — if you use “Send feedback,” the message you submit is sent
to us so we can improve the app. Please don’t include sensitive information; add contact details
only if you’d like a reply.
- Basic, privacy-friendly analytics — we may use cookieless analytics
(e.g., Cloudflare Web Analytics) to count visits and understand general usage. It does not use
cookies, does not build advertising profiles, and does not identify you personally.
What we don’t do
- No user accounts or logins.
- No advertising, ad trackers, or cross-site tracking.
- No selling, renting, or trading of your information.
Train data
Schedule and real-time train information come from Metra’s public GTFS / GTFS-RT feeds. MetraX is an
independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Metra. Times, delays, and
track assignments are estimates and may differ from official Metra information.
Service providers
We use standard infrastructure (such as Cloudflare) to host and deliver the app. These providers
process network requests to serve content but are not given personal profiles of you.
Children
MetraX is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date above.
